Internet Voting and Biometric Authentication
S. Ajish, K. S. Anil Kumar · 2025
The first internet voting took place in the United States in 2000; more countries have started using or doing trials of internet voting. Estonia, Canada, France, and Switzerland have used internet voting for several elections or referenda. Estonia is the first country in the world where they have been using internet voting for the entire electorate. There is an excellent attraction toward internet voting—internet voting improves voter convenience and voter turnout. Internet voting enhances voter convenience, but it does not compromise security. This chapter presents a state-of-the-art survey of internet voting in different countries. Biometric authentication is popular for personal identification; fingerprint and iris biometric authentication are commonly used. In this chapter, the implementation of fingerprint and iris biometric authentication are discussed in detail.
