Traditional Automatic Repeat Request (ARQ) protocols have some obvious drawbacks. In terms of bandwidth utilization, retransmitted data occupies additional bandwidth resources. Especially when the channel is congested, retransmission may exacerbate channel congestion, leading to more data transmission failures and retransmissions, forming a vicious cycle and reducing throughput.. The purpose of this paper is to study automatic repeat request (ARQ) based on index coding. This paper examines the difference between using encoded and unencoded packets, and examines the case of different numbers of recipients, and how index encoding is used in the ARQ protocol. The differences between traditional ARQ and index coding ARQ are compared, and their throughput is calculated.
