Cognitive load, what it is and how to manage it
Finola Wilson · 2025
This chapter demonstrates a simplified model of Cognitive Load Theory, including the three competing demands that are made on working memory during the learning process. It also describes how to improve attention and minimise distraction by focusing on cognitive control and what the teacher should be doing about each of the three competing demands, with examples and deliberate practice tasks.
