This chapter gives historical context and an introduction to contemporary ethical frameworks. The chapter also discusses challenges and hurdles that often discourage team members from raising ethical issues. Best practices for managing and implementing ethics during data science development are covered, with examples of both success and failure. The chapter argues for the benefits of following ethical approaches to individuals, teams, and companies as natural language processing (NLP) solutions are developed.
