A Remote Frequency Calibration Device

Ernst Marais, Michael J. Wouters · 2025

The National Measurement Institute, Australia has been developing time transfer systems (TTSs) for more than 20 years [1].These systems have many applications, including: providing a continuously calibrated frequency reference to an accredited laboratory; auditing Network Time Protocol servers; and monitoring the synchronization of point-to-point speed measurement systems used for vehicle speed enforcement. These systems can also measure the offset of several pulse-per-second (PPS) signals against the system reference clock using a built-in time interval counter (TIC), allowing calibration of an external reference clock.
