Modeling and simulating shipboard power systems are essential for assessing their performance in early-stage design. This work presents a modeling and simulation approach that uses mathematical programming to represent power flow in a shipboard power system. This method employs optimization to construct a system model at each time step, allowing evaluation of power distribution and system behavior under various conditions, without requiring detailed system specifications. The proposed framework is applied to a notional electric shipboard power system, demonstrating how mathematical programming can be used to analyze and simulate power flow in naval applications. This approach offers a scalable tool for early-stage design and performance assessment of shipboard electrical architectures by abstracting both system physics and control actions into an optimization-driven model.
