Short packet transmission has been adopted to reduce latency in ultra-reliable and low-latency communications (URLLCs). In recent years, sparse superposition codes (SSCs) have received significant attention due to their good performance in short block lengths. This paper presents a new construction of sparse superposition codes based on the zero correlation zone (ZCZ) sequence sets. By utilizing the properties of the ZCZ sequence sets, the projection matrices of the proposed SSCs have good correlation properties. Performance evaluation reveals that the proposed SSCs based on ZCZ sequence sets outperform the SSCs based on the Zadoff-Chu (ZC) sequences for short packet transmission.
