The rapid growth of e-commerce has led to an increasing need for secure and efficient solutions to support online transactions. This research investigates the potential of blockchain technology, specifically consensus mechanisms, to address these challenges in e-commerce platforms. Through a rigorous comparative analysis of widely used blockchain consensus mechanisms, the study identifies Proof of Authority (PoA) as the best-performing consensus mechanism for e-commerce applications. To demonstrate the practical application of PoA in e-commerce, this chapter outlines the process of creating a PoA-based blockchain system using Geth. The research further details the development of a React-based e-commerce website and its integration with the PoA blockchain through MetaMask, a browser extension enabling secure transactions. The successful implementation of the PoA-based blockchain in the e-commerce website showcases the potential of this consensus mechanism to enhance the security, efficiency and scalability of online transactions, paving the way for future advancements in the e-commerce sector.
