The design of I2C and AMBA AXI communication protocols plays a crucial role in embedded systems, each catering to different performance and application needs. I2C is a low-speed, two-wire protocol typically used for communication between a master device and multiple low-speed peripherals like sensors or EEPROMs. It operates with a simple master-slave architecture and supports both single and burst data transfers, making it suitable for cost-sensitive and low-power applications. On the other hand, AMBA AXI is a high-performance, high-bandwidth interface designed for connecting components within a system-on-chip (SoC). It supports multiple masters and slaves, burst data transfers, and provides advanced features like Quality of Service (QoS). While I2C is simpler and used for low-speed devices, AMBA AXI is more complex and suited for high-throughput, high-performance applications, such as those found in SoC designs. Both protocols serve essential roles in embedded system communication, balancing speed, complexity, and power requirements.
