Applying SBA in Research and Practice

Grace Sarra, Marnee Shay · 2025

Existing strengths-based frameworks in Indigenous education provide an excellent foundation for practice. This chapter explores the application of strengths-based approaches in Indigenous education contexts. It examines established strengths-based philosophies, pedagogies, and approaches, including stronger, smarter pedagogies, and culturally responsive teaching practices. The chapter emphasises the importance of codesign and the Engoori process, encouraging educators to shift their thinking, value multiple perspectives, and challenge assumptions. By embracing the strengths inherent in Indigenous identities, the chapter advocates for a more inclusive and effective educational framework that honours and leverages the cultural wealth of Indigenous students, peoples, and communities.
