The Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) is a fast-growing field with the potential to revolutionize the provision of healthcare services. It consists of an intelligent medical devices network that enables remote and wireless appliances to communicate and easily evaluate clinical data online. The Internet of Medical Things enhances the healthcare system by providing real-time information, remote monitoring of patients, and improved patient experience. Recently, IoMT networks have become increasingly susceptible to cyberattacks, which could have detrimental effects on patient safety and data security. Each internet-connected device poses a potential security risk, and numerous threats could result in a data breach. Security breaches against IoT devices could result in patient treatment delays, inaccessible medical records, and ransomware attacks. This chapter investigates the security challenges associated with the IoMT and highlights the necessity for effective security measures to ensure its secure functioning. The security threats posed by the 22 IoMT and the associated risks to patient health and privacy are examined. The need for IoMT security and IoMT architecture are discussed. Additionally, the chapter identifies prospective new directions for future research. It is essential that healthcare professionals are aware of the security risks posed by the IoMT and that organizations make the necessary efforts to guarantee safe and secure operations.
