With the increasing importance of research and development (R&D) in strengthening national competitiveness in today's knowledge-based society, the national R&D project information service has become a critical platform for facilitating information sharing, policy coordination, and cooperation among various stakeholders, including government agencies, research institutions, and industry players. In particular, as Korea seeks to transition from a catch-up model of R&D-focused primarily on technology imitation and absorption-to an advanced, innovation-driven R&D model that emphasizes original research and global leadership, the structure and granularity of project-related information have been undergoing flexible adjustments in response to rapidly evolving social, economic, and technological contexts. However, Korea's current project-based information system still faces several limitations. These include restricted usability by the general public, insufficient support for in-depth technology trend analysis, and inadequate linkage between project inputs and performance outcomes. As a result, there is a growing demand for a transition toward a performance-based information system that can better support decision-making and foster innovation. This study aims to diagnose the current status of Korea's national R&D project information service, identify key challenges and structural inefficiencies, and propose comprehensive improvement measures.Through comparative analysis of domestic and international R&D project information management systems, this study seeks to derive insights, highlight best practices, and ultimately contribute to the formulation of national science and technology policy and long-term sustainable development strategies.
