Optimizing the blockchain-based platforms for carbon trading to enhance digital economic sustainability

The world is entering a new era of digitalization, which is expected to bring about digital economic sustainability (DES), particularly for the Indian economy ( Agrawal et al., 2022 ). Over the last few years, climate change mitigation has mobilized global attention. Sustainable environmental development is crucial but insufficient without cost-effective technological solutions to address the challenges associated with environmental conservation. Carbon markets provide an example of collaborative mechanisms that effectively enable countries and organizations to achieve and exceed their climate promises by transferring mitigation actions. The climate finance mechanism is the increasing attention to environmental markets with the idea of unlocking environmental virtual values. In the context of India, the fourth-largest global greenhouse gas (GHG) emitter, an innovative method of emission trading systems is necessary to complement the emissions reduction schemes currently underway ( Bhatt, 2023 ).
