Cybersecurity and Forensics for Multimedia Investigation
Surbhi Mathur, Anubhav Singh · 2025
In the ever-changing digital landscape, combining biometrics and multimedia forensics is transforming cybercrime investigations. This integration entails combining multiple biometric modalities, including fingerprint and iris recognition, facial analysis, voice identification, and behavioral biometrics. However, guaranteeing the security of biometric data is a top priority, which is addressed by mechanisms such as encryption, safe storage, and multi-factor authentication. The use of biometric data poses complicated privacy and ethical concerns, necessitating a delicate balance between individual privacy and security, which can be reached by informed permission, transparent privacy rules, and regulatory compliance. Because of the many formats and sources of biometric data, technical hurdles occur when merging it with multimedia evidence. Solutions include standardizing data formats, creating interoperable systems, and utilizing cross-modal biometrics for seamless integration. Throughout this chapter, we look at these difficulties and provide practical answers as well as insights into technological and legal implications. Our goal is to provide a thorough roadmap for cybercrime investigators, guiding them through the changing landscape of digital security.
