Building My Murder Memo (Part 2): Reviewing the Police Investigation
Daniel Grothaus · 2025
Before any review, it may help to know what I am looking for. In this chapter, I introduce the primary contributing factors of wrongful convictions, as determined by the Innocence Project and the National Registry of Exonerations. Their data (through 2014), presented in the Albany Law Review , explains in hindsight what led to nearly 2,000 wrongful convictions. With those factors in mind, I explain in greater detail why and how I review my raw data in chronological order. Using that approach helped me discover the contributing factors, in each of my 30 proven cases of innocence, without specifically looking for any contributing factors.
