Navigating daily life presents numerous challenges for sight-impaired individuals, particularly in terms of travel and obtaining accurate environmental information. Traditionally, these individuals have relied heavily on others for assistance, as standard mobility aids like canes offer limited support. To address these challenges, we introduce a smart stick enhanced with Embedded and solar powered technology. This innovative device is designed to detect obstacles, recognize objects and money using a deep learning algorithm, and monitor the user’s health via an integrated pulse sensor. The smart cane or stick is powered by a Raspberry Pi 3b+ and includes a Ubl ox Neo 6M module for emergency alerts and location tracking. Additionally, it provides real-time updates on nearby public transportation options, helping users plan their journeys more effectively. An accompanying Android application, connected to Firebase, allows for remote monitoring of the user’s health and location data. The smart stick delivers an impressive obstacle detection accuracy of 91.7% and is both cost-effective and lightweight. Ultimately, this system is designed to enhance the autonomy, safety and quality of life for people with sight-impairments.
