Research to Determine Strengths & Weaknesses, Opportunities & Threats

Nancy R. Lee · 2025

Chapter 3 begins with a brief description of Step #2 in a traditional strategic planning process, that of determining what Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, & Threats ( SWOT ) should be considered when developing a planned social marketing effort. This is followed by an in-depth discussion of typical questions related to developing this step for research to address, and the most common methodologies used for conducting research efforts to inform this step. Brief case studies representing a variety of Social Issues provide examples of questions addressed and insights provided by research efforts, and an in-depth case study provides more detail on a research effort that provided a SWOT analysis for a social marketing campaign. The chapter concludes with a SWOT analysis for a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion case example.
