The rise of autonomous systems—including smart environments, robots, and self-driving cars—has made it increasingly important to teach these systems effectively, maximizing their utility, ensuring desired behaviors, and enabling the correction of undesired actions. For these systems to be effective in real-world settings, they must be capable of in-situ learning and adapting to cultural norms, user preferences, and individual needs. Thus, a key challenge emerges: how can we design learning systems that are easy, efficient, and enjoyable for humans to teach?
