Blockchain-Based Digital Identity for e-Governance in Rural India
International Research Journal of Modernization in Engineering Technology and Science · 2025
Access to reliable digital identity is a cornerstone for inclusive development and public service delivery. In rural India, where infrastructure, digital literacy, and trust in digital platforms remain limited, centralized identity systems often fail to provide transparency, security, and accessibility. This research proposes a decentralized, blockchain-powered digital identity framework specifically designed for rural Indian populations. The system aims to provide tamper-proof, self-sovereign identity credentials while ensuring interoperability with existing government services such as Aadhaar, MNREGA, and PM-Kisan.The proposed model utilizes permissioned blockchain architecture (e.g., Hyperledger Fabric) to guarantee secure data sharing between citizens, government agencies, and service providers. This framework enhances data privacy, reduces identity fraud, and empowers individuals with control over their personal data, fostering inclusive and transparent egovernance.
