The Breakthrough of Future Delivery

In the past few years, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a significant shift toward online mode. Amid this highly infectious pandemic, the need for contactless exchange of goods with the outside market arose. Delivery robots emerged as a solution to this need. While delivery robots were in use before the pandemic, their usage saw a surge during this period due to their advantages, including contactless delivery, reduced need for manpower, and lower pollution levels. Additionally, they have the potential to save many lives, as road accidents claimed the lives of several delivery personnel each month. The primary aim of this paper is to provide an overview of delivery robots, including their evolution, functioning, applications, and benefits, as well as the challenges they face. It also explores the potential of delivery robots in achieving the goals of the Emerging Disruptive Technologies for Society 5.0 initiative, and it provides examples of how delivery robots are already being used in various industries worldwide.
