Development of an XR docent system based on remote real-time interaction

Jongyong Kim, Jonghoon Song, Sanghun Park · Journal of the Korea Computer Graphics Society · 2025

This paper provides an in-depth analysis of the design and actual application of a real-time interactive XR-based docent system in an exhibition space. The proposed system consists of a physically separated base camp and an exhibition booth, where actors at the base camp capture motion, facial expressions, and voice information in real time to perform the role of virtual docents. The data generated during this process is transmitted via a network to the XR devices in the exhibition booth, enabling visitors to naturally communicate and interact with the docent avatar. This paper comprehensively analyzes not only the technical performance of the system but also the operational challenges that arise in actual application and the corresponding solutions through on-site operations. The results of this study propose practical system design and operational methods that can provide more immersive and flexible viewing experiences in exhibition and experience spaces.
