AUTONOMOUS MOBILE ROBOT MANIPULATION WITH VISION-BASED NAVIGATION
International Research Journal of Modernization in Engineering Technology and Science · 2025
This project presents the design and implementation of a compact, vision-enabled mobile robotic system powered by the ESP32-CAM microcontroller. The robot integrates real-time image processing and wireless communication functionalities within a single low-cost platform. It is equipped with an onboard camera for live image capture and communicates wirelessly via Bluetooth using the Serial Bluetooth Terminal application on Android devices.Unlike conventional systems that depend on Wi-Fi networks or manual control, this robot leverages Bluetooth Serial communication to operate effectively in offline or constrained environments. The ESP32-CAM processes plain-text commands received from a smartphone to control motors and servo mechanisms, enabling autonomous navigation, object detection, and pick-and-place tasks. The system's architecture emphasises simplicity and cost-efficiency by combining vision and control on a single microcontroller. Its modular software design facilitates easy adaptation for various applications such as educational robotics, home automation prototypes, and foundational research platforms.Custom commands can be added without altering the hardware, making the system versatile and extensible.
