Gigabit Automotive Ethernet is becoming a crucial enabler for cutting-edge automotive applications due to the growing complexity of in-vehicle systems and the growing need for dependable and fast data transfer. In these high-speed settings, Reed-Solomon (RS) codes and other forward error correction (FEC) techniques are essential for preserving data integrity. A 2.5 Gbps Reed-Solomon encoder based on the RS(360,326) reduced code using GF 210is designed and implemented in this paper. The system provides symbol-level correction of up to 17 symbols per codeword and aims for robust error correction in automobile communication channels. Verilog was used for the implementation and verification on Cadence Xcelium and Simvision tools were used.
