Blockchain Based Digital Health Passport

Akshit Naithani, Tanish Singh Rajpal · 2025

Managing patient data securely and efficiently is vital in today's healthcare environment. Centralized legacy systems have previously experienced several cases of data infiltration, inefficiency, and non-availability of interoperability features. This paper advocates for a decentralized digital health passport system to overcome these challenges, based on blockchain technology. The patients will store their health history on a blockchain, and a share will be given to all authorized healthcare providers throughout the country to access this information. Each patient will be given a unique identifier akin to a passport number and this will be linked to their mobile number for OTP-based access control. This system exploits blockchain's ability to decentralize and immutably restrict unauthorized access, manipulation, or leakage of data while ensuring that information is available per demand from anywhere in the country. It also uses advanced encryption techniques that safeguard sensitive information and multi-factor authentication to boost security further. System architecture has been outlined in this paper, along with the detailing of operational processes and the discussion of potential impact on healthcare data management. A secure, scalable, and user-friendly handling of patient data in a digital healthcare ecosystem is what this proposed solution represents.
