Büşra Tural Demir, Zeynep Örpek, Zeynep Destan · 2025

Smart cities aim to make urban life more efficient, environmentally friendly and livable by offering technology-supported solutions in line with green energy strategies. In particular, increasing energy demand and environmental sustainability goals necessitate innovative energy systems for smart cities. In this context, green energy sources form the basis of smart city infrastructures. Factors such as the use of green energy, reducing carbon footprint and increasing energy efficiency are supported by green finance mechanisms to help minimize the environmental impact of cities. In recent years, blockchain technology has also been integrated with green energy and smart city applications, offering innovative solutions in many areas, from providing transparency in energy trading to managing carbon credits. This study aims to provide a framework that focuses on regional strategies by addressing the relationship between smart cities and green energy from a global perspective. It also examines the contributions of blockchain technology to the green energy ecosystem and assesses its impact and potential on smart city projects.
