Model-Based Failure Propagation Analysis and Automated Fault Tree Generation: Methodology and Application in Complex Avionics System

Ran Wang, Lei Li, Po Hu · 2025

Traditional fault tree models rely on engineers' experience and are manually established, which is prone to human errors and high communication costs as well as slow iteration efficiency. Based on the characteristics of complex avionics systems and combined with the model-based safety analysis ideas, this paper studies a graphical approach to establish failure propagation relationships between functional and physical models at different levels, aiming to automatically generate fault tree models at various functional levels including integrated modular avionics complex networks. Practice has shown that this technique and method can achieve automatic creation, rapid modification and iteration of fault trees by creating failure propagation models, greatly improving the efficiency and accuracy of safety analysis of complex systems.
