Wireless Environmental Monitoring with a Mobile Rover: A Multi-Sensor Approach
Andres Rojano-Martínez, Mariana Natalia Ibarra Bonilla · 2025
Environmental monitoring is crucial in assessing and mitigating ecological challenges such as climate change, air pollution, and atmospheric variations. Traditional data collection methods rely on stationary sensors or manual sampling, which limit coverage and adaptability. This paper presents a wireless environmental monitoring system implemented on a mobile rover equipped with multiple sensors to measure temperature, relative humidity, atmospheric pressure, and acceleration data. The system utilizes a PIC18F45K50 microcontroller for sensor data acquisition and an HC-05 Bluetooth module for wireless communication. A graphical user interface (GUI) developed in MATLAB App Designer enables real-time visualization and analysis of the acquired data. The rover’s mobility allows for adaptive and comprehensive environmental monitoring across various terrains. By integrating mobile robotics and wireless communication, the proposed system offers a scalable and efficient solution for real-time environmental assessment with potential applications in agriculture, meteorology, and industrial safety.
