The technology commonly referred to as the Internet of Things or IoT has flooded several industries including smart homes, industry automation and many more, and is well known for its benefits and efficiency. However, such proliferation brings numerous security issues, thanks to the massive data flows, as well as Iot device variations. Inadequate solutions are typically employed for the security of IoT networks, as conventional security risks do not cover the security risks typical of IoT networks. Blockchain technology seems to provide an effective solution to these challenges due to Decentralized and the tamper-proof nature of data due to an immutable ledger system and comparative transparency. This way, through the help of blockchain, IoT networks can allow for secure decentralized system that will only authorize relevant transactions, protect the customers’ information, and guarantee thus reliability. Moreover, through the incorporation of blockchain-based smart directed contracts-fully executable contracts which consist of pre-programmed provisions-owners can apply security measures as scripts, increasing the overall security against information leaks, unauthorized access, and manipulation. This integration minimizes the IoT networks’ dependence on architectural approaches to security, increasing their cybersecurity. Blockchain and IoT security combined is a path-breaking model of protecting the data of smart devices and networks. This paper reviews the prospects of applying blockchain technology to improve the security of IoT systems, assesses the effects on communication throughput and outlines a framework for understanding IoT technology implementation. Combing through the primary opportunities, the following key points were identified Fig 3 Controlling the critical shortcomings, the proposed solutions will seek to cement IoT networks to their growing security needs to match the ever- increasing numbers of connected gadgets.
