Sudhanshu Deshpande, Madhavi Damle · 2025

Robust security measures to safeguard information and networks are necessary as the expansions rapid expansions and growth of Internet of Things (IoT) systems necessitate. The seamless interaction and data exchange among wearable tech, domestic appliances, and software in the IoT landscape create a critical need for secure information sharing. This research paper comprehensively reviews the National Institute of Standards and Technology - NIST 800-53 security framework. It is mainly selected as it is well-recognised and offers varied levels of control and coverage, with its three different baselines, namely High, Medium, and Low, for discussion. The security requirements of IoT-based systems and the potential implementation are the focus. The findings and solution proposed here are the adaptions of the framework, after identifying the security gap, to fortify the solution in cyberspace and within the security of IoT environments for far-reaching consequences of incorporating various baselines within this framework, offering strategic insights for the needs of different industries.
