Adaptive X-Ray Image Processing: Practical Solution for Diverse Applications

Prabhu K, P Gowtham, S Sakthivel, Karthick P S · 2025

X-ray imaging is a crucial tool in medical diagnostics, but its effectiveness is often hindered by noise, artifacts, and distortions. Therefore, this research introduces an advanced framework for enhancing X-ray images by applying multiple image processing techniques in sequence. The proposed method integrates histogram-based contrast enhancement, Contrast-Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE), unsharp masking, and high-frequency emphasis filtering to enhance contrast, reduce noise, and improve fine details. To optimize performance, parallel computing with Graphics Processing Units is employed, which significantly accelerates the processing speed. Experimental evaluations demonstrate a substantial enhancement in X-ray image quality, highlighting the effectiveness of these advanced techniques in radiological analysis. This study contributes to the development of improved X-ray imaging methods, supporting more precise medical diagnoses and enhancing patient care.
