A Conceptual Review

Worker-recuperated enterprises (WREs) are infused with the principals and practices of worker&s; control and self-management, most precisely embodied in the concept of autogestión , the Spanish term with similar variants in all Romance languages. This chapter theoretically works through the notion of autogestión . To do so, it reviews the three types of conversions of productive entities to self-managed workplaces, assesses practices of workers&s; participation and autogestión along a participation/ownership, influence/power continuum, and conceptualizes and differentiates workers&s; participation, workers&s; control, and workers&s; self-management.
