With the rapid expansion of the Darknet and its growing impact on various networking applications, the significance of associated security threats has intensified. Detecting and mitigating these threats remains a critical challenge despite ongoing research efforts. This review explores the diverse techniques employed for darknet detection, focusing on Intrusion Detection/Prevention Systems (IDPS). We analyze existing methods, their effectiveness, and the challenges in identifying and preventing malicious darknet traffic. Additionally, we discuss advancements in supervised learning techniques, historical pattern analysis, and adaptive security mechanisms that enhance IPS performance in countering emerging darknet threats. The study provides insights into the evolving landscape of darknet detection and highlights future directions for strengthening cybersecurity defenses.
