Mohammed Ibrahim El-Hajj, Ahmad Fadlallah, Ali El Attar, Rida Khatoun · 2025

The increasing adoption of IoT devices necessitates cryptographic solutions that balance security and energy efficiency. This paper introduces an optimized approach to lightweight cryptographic algorithms - GIFT, SPECK, and PRESENT - focusing on reducing energy consumption while preserving security guarantees. Our optimizations yield energy reductions of up to 22% for GIFT, 18% for SPECK, and 15% for PRESENT without compromising resistance to cryptographic attacks, as demonstrated through formal security proofs and validation with AVISPA. Integrating these optimized algorithms into IoT platforms enhances battery life and enables secure, scalable communication in resource-constrained environments. Additionally, this research supports sustainable computing by minimizing the energy footprint of cryptographic operations, aligning with global efforts to reduce carbon emissions and electronic waste.
