Blockchain-Based Secure Data Sharing System in Fog?????????Edge System
Harshitha Kamal Kannan · Auerbach Publications eBooks · 2025
The rapid growth of technology in internet of things (IoT) leads to generations of huge amounts of data by smart devices and edge systems. Traditional cloud-based systems give more latency, security vulnerabilities, high costs and bandwidth constraints to store and process these data. Fog–edge computing is an emerging paradigm that provides a decentralized approach by deploying computations close to the data source, thereby reducing the network congestion and enhancing system responsiveness. To address data security and to avoid data breaches, blockchain technology is used. This approach ensures access control, integrity and data confidentiality in the environment. This chapter discusses various systems deployed on blockchain-based fog–edge computing with architecture of the system, consensus algorithms used, smart contracts functionalities and security mechanisms deployed in the system. Overall, this chapter highlights how blockchain technology, when integrated with fog–edge computing, can provide a robust framework for secure and decentralized data sharing, ensuring trust, security and efficiency in modern IoT-driven environments.
