Relay-based cooperative networks enhance coverage, reliability, and connectivity in modern wireless systems. Among relay-based cooperative networks, the relay selection scheme known as best-relay selection has demonstrated improved bit error probability (BEP) performance. Given the versatility and empirical accuracy of the α-μ distribution in modeling diverse fading conditions, it serves as an effective basis for analyzing the performance of best-relay selection schemes under generalized fading environments. In this paper, we consider the best relay selection scheme over an AWGN channel that experiences α-μ fading, and analyze the system performance in terms of error probability. We first derive the moment generating function (MGF) from the cumulative distribution function (CDF) characterizing this fading model. The obtained MGF expression is then utilized to evaluate the BEP performance considering binary coherent modulation schemes. Numerical results and simulations are presented to confirm the validity of the derived expressions.
