Enhancing Security and Privacy in the Internet of Things :Challenges and Emerging Solutions

Mrs Divya, R. Sukanya · INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF CURRENT SCIENCE · 2025

The Internet of Things (IoT) is transforming the digital landscape by enabling seamless connectivity and intelligent automation across various domains, including healthcare, smart homes, industrial systems, and transportation. However, the rapid expansion and heterogeneous nature of IoT ecosystems have introduced significant security and privacy challenges. These include vulnerabilities in device firmware, insecure communication protocols, inadequate authentication mechanisms, and the risk of massive data breaches. The resource constraints of many IoT devices further complicate the deployment of conventional security solutions. This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of the current security and privacy issues in IoT, categorized across the device, network, and cloud layers. It also explores emerging solutions, including lightweight cryptography, blockchain-based trust models, machine learning for intrusion detection, and privacy-preserving data sharing techniques. Additionally, the paper discusses regulatory frameworks and standardization efforts aimed at enhancing trust and interoperability.
