An Improved Coefficient Decimation Approach Using MAC to Achieve Low Complexity FIR Filters

Subahar Arivalagan, Britto Pari James · 2025

Recently, the Improved Coefficient Decimation Method (ICDM) has been proposed in the literature as a low complexity, programmable finite impulse response (FIR) filter. The two fundamental needs of channel filters are minimized complexity and reconfigurability of ICDM in creating FIR filters with different passband locations are improved by the MAC based ICDM, which we present in this study. Using MAC ICDM it is possible to resolve the mid frequency positions in frequency responses in many bands with a single multiplier. MAC ICDM produces a wide range of sharp filter responses with superior center frequency location resolution and stronger stopband attenuation using one prototype stable group delay filter with low pass frequency response. This work only employs one multiply and add unit, no matter what the number of channels and taps. The Xilinx Virtex-6 (xc6vlx240t) FPGA device was used for the testing. The findings demonstrate that the suggested FPGA synthesised channel filter provides the dynamic power consumption at 50 MHz dropped by 69.32%, and the number of occupied slices was lowered by up to 76.72%.
