Augmented Reality for Teaching Anatomy Education

Mj Estepanie Palo, Ma. Gracia Jra. Villanueva, Ronel Simon · 2025

Augmented Reality (AR) is a transformative educational technology with significant potential to enhance anatomy education for young learners. This study investigates the application of AR in teaching the anatomy of the human body and the reproductive system to Grade 5 students. Traditional methods of teaching anatomy, which rely heavily on static images, videos, and lectures, often fail to effectively engage students or help them grasp complex three-dimensional structures. AR addresses these challenges by overlaying interactive 3D models and dynamic visualizations onto real-world environments, enabling students to explore and interact with anatomical structures in a more intuitive and engaging manner. The researchers aimed to assess the effectiveness of AR markerless in improving students' comprehension, engagement, and motivation compared to conventional teaching methods. By using AR, students were able to manipulate anatomical models, observe detailed organ structures, and visualize spatial relationships, fostering a deeper understanding of the human body. The findings demonstrated that AR significantly enhanced learning outcomes, increased student motivation, and addressed challenges such as discomfort with sensitive topics and difficulty visualizing complex concepts. Moreover, the AR application incorporated user-friendly features tailored to Grade 5 students and teachers. This research highlights AR's capacity to transform anatomy education, foster experiential learning, and inspire deeper interest in STEM fields.
