Research and Development of Mobile App for Editing Maps of Intelligent Cleaning Robots

Qiao Li, Shuai Fu · 2024

An Android-based mobile app with the functionality of editing maps for cleaning robots is designed and implemented. The cleaning robot generates grid maps of the environment by fusing data from multiple sensors, then sends the maps to the mobile app via Bluetooth. Users can view, zoom in, zoom out, and modify the maps in the app. With this app, users can add door grids to the map, replacing the existing hardware virtual walls of cleaning robots, enabling room-by-room cleaning of the robot. Users can also customize the cleaning area to only clean parts of the environment instead of the entire room. For areas with many chair and table legs under dining table, where it is not suitable for the robot to enter, users can designate them as obstacle areas, and the robot will not clean those regions. To test the effectiveness of the app, this paper proposes a complete coverage path planning algorithm based on variable step size, which can achieve thorough cleaning of cleaning areas. Experiments show that the proposed path planning algorithm combined with the map editing functions of the app not only enables efficient cleaning of the environment, but also enhances the ease of operation and reduces hardware costs.
