Writing Dialogue for VO
Brian Kindregan, Diandra Anne Lasrado · 2025
This chapter covers writing dialogue for VO, which is a more demanding discipline. When writing VO, think of your dialogue as having a rhythm to it. Writing humor into VO lines rarely works; instead, write lines that give the opportunity for the voice actor to bring humor. There is a list of dos and don’ts for writing VO such as avoiding writing in emotion, as that will come out in the read. Always read your VO lines aloud; any corrections will help your lines sound more natural.
