Contour fading method for Buddha statues in cave temples based on spatial conflict detection

Hao Yuan, Yungang Hu · 2025

In recent years, fine contour maps have been widely used in the field of digital archaeology, and the visual expression of three-dimensional contours of Buddha statues in grotto temples is of great significance for cultural relics restoration. The fading is essential in the visual expression of contours. Due to the limitation that the current fading algorithm can not be faded for 3D contours, a fading method for the contours of the Buddha statue in Grotto Temple is proposed based on spatial conflict analysis. The method determines the type of contour conflict according to the type of geometric elements and spatial relationship, then determines the contour spatial conflict through the conflict detection algorithm, and then adopts a fading algorithm to deal with the contour space conflict. The experimental results show that this method can effectively solve the spatial conflict problem of 3D contours, and eliminate the duality caused by occlusion. The resultant contour maps of the Buddha statue after fading are more realistic and faster than those processed manually.
