Monitoring the Quality of Streaming and Applications in the Internet of Things

Frank Loh, Tobias Hoßfeld · 2025

The ongoing and evolving use of communication networks presents two critical challenges for current and future networks that require special attention: (1) managing the enormous and continuously growing data traffic efficiently, and (2) handling the large number of end devices resulting from the advent of the Internet of Things in the control and data plane. In addition to these challenges, there is an urgent need to reduce energy consumption, make more efficient use of resources, and optimize processes without compromising service quality. We are addressing these efforts comprehensively by focusing on the monitoring and quality assessment of streaming applications, which significantly contribute to global Internet traffic, and conduct a general performance analysis for a Long Range Wide Area Network, one of the fastest-growing Low Power Wide Area Network solutions.
