Communication With the Help of Object Detection: From YOLO for Hand-gesture Detection

Hand-sign language is one of the communication methods that has become part of our society for a long time. It has been part of people's lives, especially people with disabilities. They use hand-sign as their communication technique. As a solution for helping them, because non-disable people are not always familiar with hand-sign language. An AI to automatically detect & recognize hand-sign language is developed using YOLO, a real time object detection. The AI model developed using AI development lifecycle, starting from problem formulation to model evaluation. The result got is overall accuracy of 78%. That indicates that overall, the model is good, and can be used as the real-time hand-sign language prediction.
