Over the years, attendance tracking has remained a fundamental yet labor-intensive task in workplaces and educational institutions, with traditional manual methods often hindered by human error, inefficiency, and challenges in detecting proxy check-ins. In response, automated attendance systems have gained attention as a viable alternative, aiming to stream- line processes and minimize reliance on outdated techniques. This study reviews existing research and methodologies on automated attendance systems, highlighting their advancements and limitations. Current solutions showcase significant progress in addressing manual tracking issues, but challenges such as accuracy constraints, high implementation costs, scalability, and reliance on specialized hardware persist. Through a comprehensive analysis of existing systems, this paper explores key factors influencing the adoption and effectiveness of automated attendance systems. The insights gathered from this review aim to provide a foundation for future research and innovation in attendance tracking, emphasizing the importance of developing solutions that balance efficiency, accuracy, scalability, and cost- effectiveness.
