As a mature and reliable energy storage technology, pumped storage power plants (PSPP) have long faced challenges related to low equipment utilization and difficulties in investment recovery. In contrast, nuclear power plants (NPP) are more suited for base-load operation, and their involvement in system peak regulation can compromise both operational safety and economic efficiency. Using the nuclear power plants in Guangdong Province as a case study, this research explores a collaborative operation model between PSPPs and NPPs. The feasibility of this integrated system is systematically assessed from three perspectives: technology, economics, and policy. The findings indicate that integrating nuclear power with pumped storage is an effective strategy for promoting the coordinated development of both technologies.
