Technological advancements have gained popularity across various sectors; especially in the sector of healthcare. Healthcare sector revolutionized patient care from electronic record management to real time monitoring of vital signs using wireless body area networks (WBANs). Although a lot of research has been done in the healthcare sector, somehow remote patient monitoring still remains untouched. Remote monitoring of patients encounters many challenges and lacks reliability, security and privacy from unauthorized users. After a detailed analysis it shows that blockchain has the potential to solve these key challenges with its unique features of decentralization, security, transparency and immutability. This study majorly focuses on finding blockchain tools and technologies to create decentralized blockchain based remote patient monitoring systems using WBANs. This study also highlights the most effective blockchain frameworks to work with the healthcare domain. By using blockchain, healthcare systems can provide safer, more efficient, and smarter solutions; setting the stage for future improvements to make it essential for better patient care.
