Edge-Cloud Integrated Computerized Adaptive Testing System: Design Deployment and Performance Comparative Analysis

As smart campuses grow, the demand for paperless exams increases, challenging university exam systems with high concurrency and latency issues. This paper presents an edge-cloud-based Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT) system with a three-tier” central cloud - edge node - terminal device” framework. Tested in a real-world university network with 1,028 concurrent users, the system reduces response latency by 80% compared to central cloud models and achieves a 76.9% edge offloading rate. These results demonstrate improved central server load management and system availability, offering a practical solution for robust online exam platforms and guiding the development of smart campus evaluation systems.
