In this paper, we developed an original framework depicting IoT security from an academic perspective. This framework provides an in-depth understanding of the shared responsibilities among stakeholders. We applied this framework to analyze five cases. Our findings identify unique vulnerabilities of IoT devices, including unauthorized access, lack of security awareness, and not prioritizing security. By proving their antecedents, we proposed some countermeasures. Following the insights from the case studies, we revealed the discrepancy underscores the need to shift public attitudes and cultivate a broader recognition of each stakeholder's role, especially end-users, in protecting IoT ecosystems. This research incorporates the principle of shared responsibility into both academic and professional dialogues on IoT security stresses the imperative for collaborative action among all stakeholders, offering a refined understanding of the public's per
