ABSTRACT This article presents a novel class of adaptive distributed methods to address the linear multi‐agent synchronization under the corrupted directed communication network. The solution to this problem is divided into two key processes, state monitoring and input configuration. During the state monitoring phase, we propose an improved observer dynamics that eliminates the coupling for the derivative of the adaptive gain. This is an extension of the derivative‐needed approach in most existing works. The improved observer structure can simplify the analysis process to some extent. Subsequently, the input control protocol for each sub‐system is designed by utilizing the estimated state and the solution to the Riccati equation. The proposed observer‐based method ensures a fully distributed structure and is robust against network scalability. Finally, the effectiveness is validated by numerical and physical examples.
