Artificial intelligence (AI) is a game-changing technology that is revolutionizing numerous sectors and domains through automation, enhanced decision-making, and advanced data processing. A significant milestone in AI development has been the achievement of deep learning, a branch of machine learning that employs multilayer neural networks to grasp sophisticated abstractions in vast amounts of data. This chapter outlines the history of AI as it has evolved over the years, from simple symbolic systems to the current prominence of deep learning. It also examines, in detail, the major components and construction of deep learning models, their domains of application, and their shortcomings. These shortcomings include difficulty in interpreting the models, computational intensity, and dependence on large data. The chapter concludes with a discussion on the future of AI and deep learning development, focusing on ethical concerns and emerging trends.
